Glory and gore by LORDE

———-

“I don´t make the mistake that high culture mongers do of assuming that because people like cheap art, their feeling are cheap, too. When people say, `Oh, listen, they´re playing our song´ they don´t mean, `Our song, this little cheap, tinkling, syncopated piece of rubbish is what we felt when we met.´ What they´re saying is, `That song reminds me of the tremendous feeling we had when we met.´ Some of the songs I use are great anyway, but the cheaper songs are still in the direct line of descent from David´s psalms. They´re saying, `Listen, the world isn´t quite like this, the world is better than this, there is love in it’, `There´s you and me in it,´or“The sun is shining in it.´ So-called dumb people, simple people, uneducated people, have as authentic and profound depth of feeling as the most educated on earth. And anyone who says different is a fascist”

Retaliation by STRAIN

- - - - - - - - - -

This is one of my pre-game pump-up songs when I play Ultimate. I listen to the Here And Now album from Strain on my way to practice and/or scrimmages because I get a certain vibe from it. Does it make me more aggressive? Yes. Is positive aggressiveness one of the main aspects in playing competitive Ultimate? Most definitely.

Last season, I used to play the Suicide Season record from Bring Me The Horizon and Darkest Hour’s Undoing Ruin to get me in the mood before games. I guess that was due to the self-destructive tendencies in my life during that period that also somehow transferred to my game. But that’s over now. It’s straight up playing to win these days. Give everything. Always.

Just won German Nationals with my Open Masters team listening to a lot of Strain.

I love the album title. “Get Better”. It can be read in so many different ways, and to me it’s a statement that seems appropiate for a lot of people. We all have to cope with certain situations, conditions, feelings in our lives and we all feel the need to “get better” somehow. So this is for everybody who needs to heal in one way or another.

Breadcrumb trail by Slint

———-

I went to see “Breadcrumb trails” yesterday, a documentary about the Louisville band Slint. I´d really recommend it to anybody with a slightly interest in the underground 90´s music scene and in the louisville scene in particular. It´s very interesting and, surprinsingly, very funny. There were a couple of things I found really surprising about the documentary: One, how insanely young were when they made “tweez” and “spiderland”. Two, the stark contrast between the seriousness of the music they did, which was dark and somber, and what a bunch of goofy, funny kids they were at the time of the making of the album. It´s pretty amusing to think that one of the most influential records of the 90´s was made by a bunch of smarter-than-thou kids behaving like idiots most of the time!

Love by Mica Levi

I talked not while ago about “Under the skin”. The soundtrack is finally out and avalaible in streaming. This is my favourite piece of a great soundtrack, and as the film, is disturbing and beautiful in equal measure. hope you like it!

Small Talk by THE STORY SO FAR

- - - - - - - - - -

Another day in Wales, another fun song. Seems like getting away from Berlin, away from the city that I’ve lived the past 8 (!) years in, really improves my mood. Then again, I managed to find a record store in this village called Aberystwyth and what did I get? A 7” single from the most depressive of all singer songwriters: Bonnie Prince Billy that is! Seems like summer hasn’t arrived yet.

Here is one of the reasons why I feel that my time in Berlin has come to an end: http://whenyoulivein.berlin/

Too many ignorant hippsters who think that blogging about their “year” in Berlin and playing guitar in the laundromat is a job. Get a life!
